はじめに
私たちの主であり救い主であるイエス・キリストの御名によってご挨拶申し上げます。
「ことばは人となって、私たちの間に住まわれた。私たちはこの方の栄光を見た。父のみもとから来られたひとり子としての栄光である。この方は恵みとまことに満ちておられた。」（ヨハネ1：14）
使徒ヨハネは、受肉された主イエスが、神の恵みと神の真理をもって、堕落した人間と常に関わっておられたことを教えています。どの時代においても、イエス・キリストに従う者たちは、キリストの模範に倣って、その時代の重要な問題に関わるよう求められてきました。私たちもまた、そのようにしなければなりません。
私たちが生きている時代では、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティに関する聖書的真理が攻撃を受けています。真理に関する知識の欠如、真理の否定、そして真理に対する反対などが、この時代の特徴となっています。キリストを救い主と告白し、聖書が誤りなき権威ある神のことばであると信じる人々の間でさえ、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティに関して聖書が何を教えているかについて、混乱や妥協が見られます。さらに、この世の価値観を優先させることによって、信者を神の真理から逸脱した方向に導こうとする諸々の試みも散見されます。キリストの足跡をたどる者として、私たちは、キリストのからだである教会とこの世に対して、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティに関する神の永遠の真理を宣言するように召されています。また私たち、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティの領域において、無知な人、否定する人、苦しんでいる人などに、愛と恵みの手を差し伸べるように求められています。
私たちを取り巻く文化は、聖書に反する価値観や信念に急速に傾倒しつつあり、多くのクリスチャンがその影響を受けています。このような状況を背景に、数名の者たちが集い、祈った結果、危機感と緊急性をもって「性の聖書的理解ネットワーク」（NBUSーNetwork for Biblical Understanding of Sexuality）を設立するように導かれました。
NBUSは、その働きの第一歩として、「ナッシュビル宣言」を採択し、その日本語訳を公表することを決定しました。この宣言は、真理と恵みに基づいて、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティに関する聖書の教えをまとめたものであり、神のことばへの立ち返りを呼びかけるために、米国の福音派の指導者たちが連名で、2017年に発表したものです。創立メンバーたちは、他のクリスチャンたちに、これらの真理への賛同を署名で表明するように呼びかけました。
日本の皆様にも、この宣言に賛同の署名を書き入れていただきたいと思います。この署名は、神が愛のゆえに、個人、家族、地域社会、そして全人類を祝福するために、これらの真理を定められたということへの賛同の意思表示になります。NBUSは、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティに関する神の真理を肯定し支持するために、一人でも多くの方がこの宣言に署名してくださるように、広く呼びかけています。
私たちすべてが、神の真理と恵みにとどまることができますように。
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
The Apostle John tells us that Jesus the Incarnate Christ always engaged with fallen human beings with the grace of God and the truth of God. Followers of Jesus Christ in every age have been called to engage with the critical issues of their day with this Christ-like example and we can do no less. The age in which we live is characterized by lack of knowledge about, the denial of, and opposition to biblical truths about gender and sexuality. Even among those who profess Christ as Lord and Savior and affirm the Scriptures to be the inerrant and authoritative Word of God, there is confusion as to what the Bible teaches about gender and sexuality and compromise regarding these biblical teachings. There are also attempts to mislead Believers away from God’s truths, giving priority to worldly ideologies. In order to follow in the footsteps of our Savior, we are called upon to declare God’s timeless truths about gender and sexuality to the Body of Christ and to the world, and also to reach out in love and grace to those who do not know, who deny, or who are struggling in the areas of gender and sexuality.
The Network for Biblical Understanding of Sexuality (NBUS) was founded for the above purpose with a sense of crisis and urgency, as the culture with which we are surrounded rapidly moves toward values and beliefs contrary to Scripture, and as increasing numbers of Christians are being influenced by this cultural drift. As our first step toward fulfilling this calling, we have decided to adopt and publish the Nashville Statement, as a truth and grace based summary of biblical teachings about gender and sexuality. This statement was issued in 2017 by Evangelical leaders in the United States to call Christians back to faithfulness to the Word of God. The framers of this statement invited Christians to affirm these truths by signing the statement. We are inviting Japanese speaking Christians to also sign on to this Statement, in Christ-like grace, in order to affirm and support God’s truths of gender and sexuality, in the belief that God ordained these truths in love, as a blessing for individuals, families, communities, and the entire human race.
May we all abide in God’s truth and grace.
